THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking an Information Management Summer Student to join our Information Management team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Information Management, the successful candidate will have strong people and technical skills, a passion for data analytics and business context, and a strong desire to learn about supporting business decisions with data. This role is ideal for students from Computer Science or Library & Information Science (MLIS) backgrounds — whether you're technically skilled in analytics tools or passionate about organizing and communicating information, this is your chance to build real-world experience in data storytelling, KPI design, and business reporting. The work term will commence in May 2026 and last for a 4-month period. This position is based in Calgary.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Reporting & Enablement (R&E) team by participating in training and mentorship to build skills in reporting, data tools (e.g., Power BI), and data storytelling
  • Gather and interpret business needs by working with the Information Management (IM) team to understand reporting requirements and translate them into KPIs and metrics
  • Design and build dashboards by creating clear and accurate Power BI dashboards that track performance and support business insights
  • Support KPI development by defining, documenting, and refining meaningful KPIs aligned with team objectives
  • Present insights through visualizations and summaries that communicate the IM team’s impact effectively to tell a story with data
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity in the data used for reporting and follow best practices for data management to maintain data quality and consistency
  • Keep clear records of data sources, definitions, and report logic for future reference 
  • Learn and adapt continuously by staying curious and proactive in improving reporting skills and exploring new tools or techniques 

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC:   

  • This position is ideally suited for students entering the second or third year of their program in Computer Science, Business Technology Management, or enrolled in a Master of Library and Information Studies, or related program (MLIS, MIM, MAS, MI), and returning to their studies in the following term 
  • Possess strong analytical thinking skills to interpret data, identify trends, and draw meaningful insights
  • Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy in data, reporting, and documentation
  • Strong communication skills to comfortably translate technical data into clear, business-friendly language
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Power BI, Excel, or other reporting and visualization tools is an asset 
  • Experience in querying databases, data warehouses, and/or data lakes using SQL is an asset
