THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Safety Operations Manager, this position will champion the chemical management and industrial hygiene programs within the organization and work with all operational disciplines (i.e., civil construction, drilling, completions, facilities and pipeline, field operations) to ensure associated controls are maintained. The role also leads stewardship reporting, safety communications, and excellence recognition programs within Safety Operations. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development, Sustainment, and Leadership

  • Lead the chemical management program, including inventory control, safety data sheet governance, safe handling practices, and regulatory compliance across all worksites
  • Facilitate an industrial hygiene program by sustaining exposure control plans, coordinating exposure sampling, implementing controls, and ensuring legislated compliance amongst all operations
  • Lead stewardship reporting and communications programs within Safety Operations team, including:
    • Prepare and communicate safety alerts, regulatory updates, and lessons learned
    • Evaluate data trends, audit findings, and operational information to identify improvement opportunities
    • Coordinate consolidation of monthly and quarterly reports
  • Facilitate safety and operations excellence recognition programs
  • Develop, revise, and implement employee and contractor training and onboarding materials related to safe work programs
  • Support various projects, initiatives, investigations, etc. with progressive accountability and a long-term objective of developing into a subject matter expert and/or leader within OHS 

Field Travel

  • Periodic field travel to field locations to support field-based operations, perform assurance activities, and provide coaching and mentoring to frontline workers: i.e., targeting at least 15% field presence. Field activities include:
    • Complete H&S assurance audits/inspections (e.g., LSR verifications, regulatory compliance inspections, audits, etc.) to identify and help correct safety management system weakness and worksite hazards
    • Engage with frontline workers and leaders to understand challenges and opportunities to improve chemical management, industrial hygiene, and safe work programs 

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with OMS, Safety Systems and Regulatory, Process Safety, Emergency Management, and base Operations teams
  • Provide coverage and support for Safety Advisors that work with various operational disciplines (i.e., civil construction, drilling, completions, facilities and pipeline, base operations) 
  • Ability to collaborate with external regulatory agencies, contractors, service providers, and capital staff as required 

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC:  

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive operations and safety experience working in the energy, oil and gas, mining, or petrochemical industry
  • Post-secondary degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Safety Professional designation required (e.g., CRSP, ROH, P.Eng. or equivalent), in-progress applicants will be considered if they meet all other criteria
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required, including ability to partner and influence at all levels
  • Demonstrated experience with stewardship reporting and safe work practice development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of Canadian federal/provincial OHS legislation
