THE OPPORTUNITY
We are currently seeking a Senior Government Relations Advisor to join our Government Relations team. Reporting to the Manager, Government Relations and Policy, the successful candidate will utilize their research skills and technical knowledge to monitor ongoing government policy changes in Alberta, British Columbia, and at the federal level, and the associated impacts to ARC’s business. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills and who thrives in a team environment. Based in our Calgary office, this role requires travel to attend various industry meetings and government events.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor, research, analyze and communicate the risks and opportunities associated with government policy changes in Alberta, British Columbia, and federally 

  • Develop position statements, technical briefing notes and other policy-related content for internal and external use 

  • Collaborate with, and support, internal departments and subject matter experts to understand, track, monitor and assess policy changes and their potential impact on ARC’s business 

  • Represent ARC at various industry and government meetings and events 

  • Maintain compliance with government lobbying requirements 

  • Support collaborative work with external organizations on shared policy and research issues 

  • Facilitate the understanding and alignment on key energy policy developments and positions within ARC 

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC:   

  • A bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, or engineering is preferred, and a master's degree in one of these areas would be considered an asset 

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in policy development and government relations in the upstream energy sector 

  • Proficient knowledge of broad-based energy policy, climate change policy, environmental policy, and First Nations 

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with excellent writing capabilities 

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research and analytical skills 

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines 

  • Ability to work in a team environment with extensive collaboration and interaction with all levels of the organization 

  • Ability to travel is essential
