THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are currently seeking an experienced Well Planner to join our Drilling team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Drilling Engineering, this role will act as a vital liaison between various ARC departments and contractors, ensuring seamless coordination of well surface land surveying, directional well planning, and borehole surveying. The successful candidate will develop detailed and optimized well plans that adhere to corporate standards, enabling efficient and cost-effective operations while maximizing reservoir potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a primary liaison between the Drilling department, Development team, and Surface Land department for activities related to well surface land surveying and directional well planning
- Coordinate between ARC Drilling Engineers and Directional Contractors to ensure alignment on well planning and borehole surveying
- Develop detailed, optimized well plans based on corporate standards and inputs from the Subsurface team
- Support both short-term and long-term well planning initiatives, incorporating scenario planning to maximize reservoir potential and optimize pad layouts
- Conduct scenario planning to combine pads and extend laterals for enhanced operational efficiency
- Perform preliminary planning activities to facilitate land surveys for licensing requirements
- Generate multiple pad planning options to support economic analyses
- Collaborate with Development Engineers and the Surface Land team to optimize pad layouts and ensure effective utilization of resources
- Review Well Centre (WC) layout options and provide recommendations for adjustments before finalizing plot plans
- Partner with directional company Well Planners to ensure ARC plans are seamlessly integrated into their templates and updated in-house prior to submission
- Maintain well and pad plans within in-house SIMOPS software for efficient data management
- Review and validate final directional surveys from vendors, ensuring accurate uploads into in-house databases
- Attend weekly asset team meetings to provide updates on new and upcoming pads, changes to current pad designs, and execution plans
- Participate in drilling rig morning calls to address updates and implement required changes to well plans
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Well Planner with a Directional Contractor
- Strong proficiency in Landmark COMPASS software
- Comprehensive knowledge of anti-collision principles, survey tool codes, and survey management requirements
- In-depth understanding of land survey processes and regulatory requirements in Alberta and British Columbia
- Intermediate proficiency in GeoScout software
- Client in-house well planning experience will be considered an asset
- Post-secondary technical degrees, including but not limited to Petroleum Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, or Applied Sciences in Oil and Gas Technology, is considered an asset
- Capable of working collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision
- Adaptable to various personality types and able to foster effective working relationships
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing demands and multiple deadlines
- Ability to switch between tasks efficiently
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to respond to after-hours and weekend calls when required
