THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are currently seeking a Safety Advisor to join our Safety team in NEBC. Reporting to the Manager, Safety Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the Base Operations teams by providing direction, expertise, and coaching related to safe work practices, OHS-related legislation, and assurance processes. Additionally, the role will also involve delivering safety-related documentation and activities to support production operation. This role is based in our Dawson Creek office and requires travel to our sites as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as part of a team with Base Operations leaders and Safety Advisors to proactively manage Health & Safety (H&S) for the operation and support the accurate and consistent implementation of ARC’s Integrated Management System (AIMS)
- Provide H&S coaching, mentoring, and assurance services to all Base Operations workers:
- Complete H&S assurance audits and inspections to identify and help correct safety management system weakness and worksite hazards
- Review and verify hazard assessments and procedures of contractors and ensure they are complete and being followed, as well as meet ARC’s expectations
- Identify hazards on location and work with ARC and contractors to ensure appropriate controls and follow-ups have occurred
- Sustain in-depth understanding of AIMS and applicable H&S policies, practices, Standards, SOPs, and ARC expectations; this includes advising other workers as it relates to AIMS governance and tools
- Actively promote H&S awareness, commitment, and leadership by building on ARC’s existing culture and developing H&S initiatives
- Participate in emergency response, as well as preparation of training. Assume assigned ICS functions during emergency response events, exercises, and drills
- Support and lead frontline incident management with incident response, evidence collection, and incident investigations for all recordable injuries, process safety, Potential Hurt 3+ events. Also includes:
- Coordinate third-party investigation support as required
- Ensure compliance with Workers Compensation legislation and required reporting
- Support with case management of impacted workers
- Follow-up on corrective actions to ensure implementation and effectiveness
- Lead industrial hygiene programs related to Base Operations, including the facilitation of field hygiene assessments (e.g. noise, BTEX, NORMs, etc.), sustainment of RPE fit testing, and audiometric testing
- Liaise with third-party industrial hygienists and safety consultants in the field as required
- Partner with operational leaders to:
- Ensure procedures, hazard assessments, competency assessments, etc. are aligned with AIMS and address organizational risks
- Align on contractor management efforts, including bid evaluations, pre-qualification activities, ongoing assurance and performance management, and contractor review meetings
- Identify and communicate leading/lagging safety indicators via regular reporting
- Facilitate regular safety meetings, new hire orientations, and worker training sessions
- Support Base Operations with turnaround H&S planning and execution
- Serve as a frontline liaison to applicable regulatory agencies as required
- Provide subject matter expertise during formal and informal risk assessments
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC:
- A diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, with a preference for those who also possess a Power Engineering or Journeyman trade certificate
- Minimum of 8 years' experience working in the energy, oil and gas, mining, or petrochemical industry with a preference for those with field experience
- Ability to mentor and coach frontline workers and leaders in the regulatory, technical, and behavioral aspects of safety
- Completion of, or working towards, a recognized Safety Professional designation such as CRSP, CHSC, CSSE, etc.
- Experience in emergency management including prevention, preparation, response, and recovery
- Demonstrated knowledge in incident investigation practices including with the design and delivery of training programs
- Strong understanding of OHS legislation, risk management, and management systems
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 with strong skills in Excel
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills while working in a fast-paced environment with varying demands
- Successful completion of H2S Alive, Intermediate First Aid, and Common Safety Orientation
- Valid Class 5 driver's license to travel to operating sites

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- As this role is considered safety sensitive, the successful candidate will be required to successfully complete drug and alcohol testing, and a fitness to work test.
- The base salary range for this position is $85,000 CAD to $140,000 CAD. The posted salary range is reflective of the qualifications associated with this specific advertisement. Exact salary/wage may vary based on qualifications, experience and skillset. Additionally, all permanent employees are eligible to participate in ARC’s competitive bonus, long-term incentive, savings plan, and benefits programs.
