THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking a Fugitive Emissions Camera Technician to join our Environmental Sustainability team for a 12-month term. Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Sustainability, the successful candidate will work closely with Field Operations to support ARC’s fugitive emissions management program and operate our Quantitative Optical Gas Imaging camera (QOGI). The ideal candidate brings strong technical capability, sound judgment, and excellent problem‑solving skills, coupled with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in the field. 

 

This role is responsible for executing field surveys, including the detection and documentation of gas leaks and emissions, as well as conducting compressor seal testing using a Hi Flow Sampler. The Technician will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ARC’s QOGI camera and Hi Flow Sampler while ensuring full compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Daily travel to ARC facilities across Alberta and British Columbia is required, and the position plays a key role in supporting accurate data collection, site evaluations, and reporting for environmental performance. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate QOGI camera equipment to detect, quantify, and document gas leaks and emissions at ARC facilities, and utilize the Hi Flow Sampler to perform compressor seal testing
  • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of QOGI and Hi Flow Sampler equipment to ensure operational reliability
  • Record and document all inspection findings with accuracy using established procedures, reporting standards, and digital tools
  • Interpret camera data and support the analysis of inspection results for regulatory compliance, maintenance planning, and operational decision‑making
  • Travel to ARC locations across Alberta and British Columbia to execute scheduled and ad hoc inspections
  • Participate in ongoing training initiatives to maintain proficiency with evolving technologies, methodologies, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives related to emissions detection and reporting
  • Collaborate with on‑site personnel to coordinate access, ensure safe working conditions, and support efficient execution of inspections
  • Follow all safety procedures and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safe operation during field activities 

 

WHAT WILL YOU BRING TO ARC

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with exposure to QOGI cameras, Hi Flow Samplers, or similar emissions‑detection technologies
  • High school diploma required; post‑secondary technical training or an electrical/instrumentation background is considered an asset
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with a solid understanding of gas‑detection principles, equipment troubleshooting, and industrial safety standards
  • Experience with Montrose Environmental Target Online software and SAP EAM is considered an asset
  • Comfortable working outdoors in industrial settings with exposure to varying weather conditions; fieldwork and travel to remote or industrial sites across AB and BC is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • High attention to detail with strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities, particularly in troubleshooting oil and gas equipment
  • Proficient with computers and data‑entry software, with a commitment to accurate documentation
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and adherence to all PPE and safety protocols
